THE GREAT ALPINE ROAD - VICTORIA (September 24 2008) (Andrew Percy) (General Events) The Great Alpine Road (B500) traverses the Great Dividing Range from Bairnsdale in East Gippsland to Wangaratta in north east Victoria, a distance of 308 kilometres. The road is Australia’s highest (1,825m) year-round accessible sealed road and wends its way over lofty mountains, through valleys and forests, crosses rivers, and passes vineyards and farms.
