CLUB PLATED BIKES MAY BE USED FOR THESE EVENTS Click here for more information

The most frequent club activity would be it's 'rides'. These are usually one day events, most often on a sunday. All members and friends are welcome. Rides will usually kick off at a Melbourne suburban cafe for breakfast and include lunch at one of the many biker friendly pubs around Victoria.
It doesn't matter how experienced you are or what bike you ride or whether you are carrying a pillion. The emphasis here is to have a bit of (legal) fun, do a lot of socialising and return safe.
Regular rides are the 'Bevelution' (March and November), Flinders twilight (early Dec), and Appollo Bay (GOR).
For some photographs of past rides, check out the gallery.
Keep watching the itinerary for the coming rides. If you would like to lead a ride yourself, contact the Club Captain .

DOCV - Group Riding Etiquette

If you intend joining a Club ride, here are some guidelines to follow regarding "Ride Etiquette"

  • Arrive well before the departure time (half an hour is good) ? we normally have a coffee first.
  • Arrive with a full tank of petrol.
  • The ride leader will have planned fuel stops for bikes with a shorter range (we don't all have ST's). Fill up, even of it is only a top up, at the planned fuel stops, it makes for a far more efficient ride.
  • Listen to the riders briefing. It usually outlines the ride, meeting points, fuel stops and any possible hazards on the route.
  • Follow the Corner Marking System. The lead rider signals to the following two riders to stop and wait for the tail rider wherever he would normally use his blinker. These 'corner markers' should be visible to the following bikes and should indicate the direction to be taken as the others approach. The tail rider (usually wearing a fluro vest) will then nod or beep for the 'corner markers' to continue. Next corner, we do it all over again and again and again.... You NEVER leave the corner till the last rider comes through and gives you a nod or a beep. The tail rider NEVER passes anyone. If you have somehow still managed to stuff up (it does happen, no dramas, once!!!) you will eventually come to a corner, hopefully a tee intersection. If no-one is waiting, you should be suspicious. STOP YOUR BIKE AND WAIT. We'd rather not chase you down one of two roads.
  • On a big ride with lots of turn-offs and when the leader rider pulls over, DO NOT GET OFF AND LIGHT UP A CIGGY, or take off any gear. Be guided by the lead rider - if he stays on the bike, helmet and gloves on, do the same. It usually means that we?ll be continuing shortly.
  • Wherever you are, don't ride in the middle of the bloody road as it is full of loose stones and they pepper anyone behind you. Cars flick all the shit to the middle of the lane.
  • Allow a safe distance between yourself and other riders. Staggering left and right side of a lane increases visibility and rider distance.
  • If someone catches up to you in the twisties, don't race them on the straight, or accelerate hard when they move to overtake you. Back off and let them past safely. If they caught up to you, they're most likely more skilled anyway.
  • Ride at your speed (one that you feel comfortable with) and not at Fast Freddies. This is a ride not a race.
  • For new members on your first ride - the easiest place to start the day is towards the back of the pack, regardless of how good a rider you may think you are. You most likely will have no idea of what people are doing or how fast they are capable of going, so this will save you from getting into a sticky situation. If you are comfortably keeping up, you can slowly move through the pack until you find someone who rides that same pace as you, and generally, this will be a good place to stay.
  • Pay attention and learn from what other riders around you are doing. it takes time to build up trust from other riders within the club, but if you start off on the wrong foot it will take a lot longer.
  • Be patient, ride safely and arrive home happy.
